The objective of maintenance is linked to the overall
organisational objectives of maximising the productivity and hence the
profitability of the organisation. To achieve this, activities of retaining
and improving the equipment to an acceptable working condition thus extending
the useful life of the equipment is taken care of.

maintenance management:

· Provides effective and efficient use of maintenance
personnel through proper planning.
· Extends the life of costly capital assets by
minimising the rate of wear and tear.
· Keeps all productive assets and its related
aggregates in good working condition.
· Maximises economy through optimum use of resources
and facilities.
· Minimises accidents through proper maintenance of all
safety devices.
· Ensures and minimises the total cost of maintenance
through good control over cost of repair, inventory carrying costs, and so
on.
· Improves the quality of productive assets for higher
productivity.
